About Us
Island Lake Recreation Area is home to one of seven DNR shooting ranges. The park has excellent canoeing, hiking & biking, fishing, and popular picnic shelters. Island Lake has the only balloon port in the state park system. Balloons take off in the early morning or late evening out of our Meadows Picnic Shelter area. The park also allows for metal detecting (restricted areas), as well as snowmobiling.
Island Lake offers two rustic cabins to rent, as well as a group use area ideal to scout troops. We have a canoe-in only campground, as well as excellent hunting opportunities. Our paved trail connects into Kensington Metropark, and you can also access the Huron Valley Trail into South Lyon. Island Lake also has 4 boating access sites located at Lake Chemung, Woodland, Whitmore Lake, and Crooked Lake.Images
