Land Policy Institute and local chambers host Visioning Workshops as next step
in Livingston County Strategic Growth Initiative
In the next step of the
Livingston County Strategic Growth Initiative, the Howell, Brighton and Hartland
chambers of commerce and the Michigan State University Land Policy Institute are
partnering to host several planning workshops, or Visioning
Sessions.
These workshops will be held throughout August in various
Livingston County locations for easy access by all who are interested in
participating. At the workshops, which are designed as part of the process to
identify a common vision, identify assets and develop targeted strategies to
help Livingston County prosper, participants will identify their “vision” of the
county for 10 to 20 years in the future.
Visioning sessions are scheduled
for the following dates and locations. Additional sessions for future dates will
be set as well, to be announced soon.
Thursday, September 2
6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Brighton District Library
“Livingston County sits at a
crossroads. It can continue to wait for economic recovery to begin and follow
the same path as before, or it can position itself to succeed in the New
Economy. The results of these workshops will form the backbone of the strategic
plan being developed for the county,” said Pat Convery, president of the Howell
Area Chamber of Commerce. “Join local leaders, planning experts and your
neighbors to help us make the county the best it can be. Without your knowledge
of the local assets provided by the residents of this county the economic
picture is incomplete.”
According to Glenn Pape, Land Policy Educator and
project coordinator, “The purpose of these workshops is to get people to put
forth ideas for what they want to see in Livingston County. When we get a lot of
ideas the best ideas rise to the top and get incorporated into the plan. The
more people get involved the better the plan. So it’s key for people to show up
and contribute ideas.”
There is no charge for the Visioning Workshops.
For each session date, registration is limited to 50 attendees.

The Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce, Howell Chamber of Commerce, Hartland Chamber of Commerce and the Fowlerville Business Association are joining together to celebrate the Livingston County Daily Press and Argus 10th Anniversary Special Business After Hours event
DATE: Wednesday, September 8, 2010
TIME: 4:30-7:00p.m.
LOCATION: LCDPA Burkhart Road Printing Operation in Howell Township (Tanger Outlet Mall; Take I-96 to exit 133, merge right on M-59 and then turn left at the traffic light onto Burkhart Road)
COST: No Charge!
On September 7, 2000, two well respected weekly newspapers in Livingston County began a bold new journey by combining to launch the first new daily newspaper in Michigan in half a century.
It's been quite a ride, but it's been a successful one. Ten years later, the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus is celebrating it's ten-year anniversary with a special business after hours at our printing facility in Howell Township (on Burkhart Road next to the Tanger Outlet Mall.)
We are inviting all chamber of commerce members to attend this special event, which runs from 4:30-7:30, Wednesday, September 8, 2010. We think it will be a special night. Visitors will get a tour of the plant and watch the next day's papers rolling "hot off the presses." There will be informal guided tours, door prizes, great food from Hickory BBQ & Grill and great conversation with fellow business people and civic leaders.
The daily has enjoyed great success in the last 10 years. It has been names newspaper of the year and is the top award-winner over the last four years in the state's annual Associated Press contest.
While other newspapers have struggled, the Daily Press & Argus is one of the few newspapers in the nation to enjoy paid circulation growth. Its Sunday circulation, for instance, is 5 percent higher than it was last year.
But most important, the newspaper has become a valued resource for readers and advertisers. Bringing news and advertising to Livingston County on a daily basis is a privilege. Much of our success is due to the good fortune of being located in Livingston County, a dynamic community with caring, successful people who share the newspaper's vision that our best days are still ahead of us.
"The September 8th business after hours is the newspaper's way of saying thank you to the many people who have made the first 10 years possible," said Rich Perlberg, the paper's general manager and executive editor. "We hope all chamber members will stop by to watch the press in action and join in the celebration."

For decades, the United States had a top marginal tax rate as high as 50, 70, and even 90%. For the past 50 years there have only been five years, 1988-1992, where the top marginal tax rate was less than the current 35% tax rate. Considering the cost of the stimulus plan, soaring U.S. government debt, a $3.72 trillion deficit, expiring tax cuts passed in 2001 and 2003, and proposed tax legislation, income tax rate are sure to rise. As a result, every taxpayer will need to consult with their financial and tax advisors to implement investment and tax strategies that benefit from a rising tax environment.
